* What is Renaissance?
Renaissance, a proven viable solution to scholastic challenges, is designed to promote and recognize academic achievement. It helps students experience the joy of learning, recognizes educators as dedicated and valued professionals, and increases the involvement of parents and businesses. A partnership between businesses, civic organizations, and schools provide incentives and leadership. Its primary objective is to give positive behavior and achievement. This national movement is currently implemented in more than 4,000 schools in the United States.
* Our Renaissance Vision
Renaissance at Martin Elementary School is a process that empowers students, educators, administrators, parents, businesses, and community organizations to work together to encourage student achievement, celebrate success, and increase community involvement.
* Our Renaissance Goals
1. Promote student responsibility
2. Raise attendance levels
3. Improve overall academic performance
4. Develop appropriate behaviors for success
5. Encourage a positive and safe environment
* Student Rewards Program
The Renaissance program consists of several components designed to reward students, faculty, and staff. These components are as follows:
*
Incentive Card - Students will be issued an I.D. card complete with student's name, picture and homeroom. The card entitles qualifed students to receive certain perks, recognition, and rewards during a nine-week period.
*
Three areas of achievement are possible; Academic, Attendance, and Discipline.
1. Academic Area -
GOLD - all A's
SILVER - all A's and B's
BRONZE - improvement of one letter grade,
without dropping in others from the last nine weeks.
2. Attendance Area -
BLUE - no more than 3 attendance occurances (early dismissal, tardy to school or class, or absence.) To be excused students must have a doctor's note or funeral notice.
3. Discipline Area -
RED - no more than 3 discipline occurrences. (one out of school suspension results in immediate loss of the discipline punch).
* SWOOPS AND SNATCHES*
1. Requested Swoop - is a surprise to the students/class, but one the teacher has requested because the student/class has done something exceptionally good.
2. Surprise Swoop - is a surprise to both the teacher and the students/class. These will occur at the beginning or end of the class. Only those meeting swoop requirements will be rewarded. Example: "Anyone who can show us their agenda has been filled out for the entire week receives a reward." OR "Everyone who has their card and has two or more punches on it come forth to receive a reward."
3. Eagle Snatch - is where anyone meeting the requirements is snatched out of the class to receive a reward. This too will usually occur at the end of a class. Example: "Anyone who has thier card with them and has a perfecf attendance punch will be dismissed five minutes early to lunch today." OR "Anyone who has their incentive card with them and has a gold punch, come to the gym for icecream at this time."
Academic Rallies
Academic Rallies are a celebration which includes entertainment, recognition, and rewards for students reaching certain levels of success during the grading period. They will occur after each nine-week grading period; and will usually be held in the gym or outdoors. Students meeting criteria such as honor roll, letter grade improvement, perfect attendance, and discipline requirements will be recognized and rewarded for their accomplishments. The students with incentive cards that meet the requirements will be entitled to random perks throughout the next nine weeks. The more punches earned on the incentive card, the more perks that the student will receive.
*STUDENTS MUST HAVE THE I.D. CARD IN THEIR POSSESSION AT ALL TIMES TO RECEIVE SURPRISES, RANDOM REWARDS THROUGHOUT THE NINE WEEKS.
(No going to locker or calling home to get card!)
* Staffulty of the Month
Anyone may submit a nomination form for Staffulty of the Month.....students, faculty, staff, parents, partners in education, etc. Nomination forms are available in the Library and must be turned in by the 3rd Thursday of each month. The selection team will select the Staffulty of the month by what is written about them. They will be recognized and rewarded with a wall display beside the door of the winner. They will also be displayed on the M.E.S. "Wall of Fame" and on the school website!

* Business & Community Involvement
Renaissance provides businesses and education an opportunity to form a partnership in finding ways for students to experience success in their educational quests. Through Renaissance, businesses can provide tangible rewards to students who earn recognition at school. Martin Elementary School is embracing the business concepts of tangible rewards to its employees for outstanding contributions. As a new Renaissance school, we are currently seeking partners to add to this program. As a business partner, opportunity for exposure to your businesses' name will be provided.
* Business & Community Partner Perks
1. Increased exposure
2. Increased traffic of parent and families of students
3. Involved in a visible, tangible, walkaroundable program
4. Involved in the education of students in your community
In another ten or twenty years, the students that you are rewarding will be the ones that are running our businesses. It is a very easy opportunity to plan for and invest in the future.
* A message from the Principal
It is with great pleasure and optimism that I have the opportunity to support and promote the Renaissance program here at Martin Elementary.
My father, an experienced educator, frequently spoke to students who had lost their vision and said, "Be at school each and every day. Do your work. Behave yourself. That's what you need to be successful."
A Renaissance School recognizes students for doing just that. We want to celebrate our young people for taking the initiative to meet the criteria of a successful student. High expectations for student achievement and student responsibility will yield student pride and success.
Please join us in our efforts to make this dream a reality!
Christie Lewis, principal
